WWI was truly a gruesome war. Over 9 million soldiers lost their lives because of a blend of nationalism and modern industrialism. Naturally, this combination led to catastrophic results throughout Europe that would last generations. Using your notes, textbook and the film Paths of Glory, write an essay about WWI. What were the causes of the war? How did imperialism, industrialism and a system of entangled alliances contribute to the cause of war?
In addition, describe what life was like for the average soldier during the war. What threats did they face on the front line? Describe how modern technology contributed to high casualty rates, trench warfare and possible rebellion.
