Athlete Inspired Social Movement Visual Essay
Project
- Select an athlete or team that has inspired social change.
- Write an introductory paragraph that introduces your athlete/team and provides context regarding the social issue.
- Create an argument (thesis) regarding the efficacy of the athlete or team’s protest (HOW they took a stand and the IMPACT their actions had upon the social issue) – in other words,
- What did they do?
- Why did they do it?
- How effective were they at accomplishing their goals?
- Select three images that represent evidence to support your argument.
- Write 1 paragraph of analysis for each image explaining the evidence and how it supports your argument (thesis).
- Cite any and all external sources used in this project.
- Include an MLA-formatted Works Cited List in your visual essay.
- Design a background that represents your athlete/team, social issue, and/or argument.
- You will present your visual essay in a 3-5 minute presentation.

Can I use a posterboard or a digital program?
Either approach works, BUT if you utilize a digital program, it MUST be a single page/slide (NOT a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation).
Do I need to cite?

Is this a cooperative learning project? Meaning can I work on it with someone else?
No and No
What if someone else selects that same person or team, can we work together?
Answer: Still NO!!!
If two people, select the same person or team will we have to rock/paper/scissors- best two out of three to decide who gets that individual or team?
