The purpose of this assignment is to provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate scholarly writing skills, appropriate use of APA format, and application of leadership concepts. Students will identify an inspirational nursing leader they have known or currently know (e.g., nurse educator, clinical leader/executive, or health policy advocate) and discuss the following:

1. How has the leader exemplified TWO of the five practices delineated by Kouzes and Posner for improving of organizational performance in their practice environment (model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart). Provide examples to illustrate.
2. How has the leader demonstrated TWO leadership core competencies within TWO of the leadership domains identified by Heinen et al. (2019)? Provide examples to illustrate.
3. Reflecting on your own nursing practice to date in the context of Kouzes and Posner’s leadership model and Heinen et al.’s leadership competencies, identify one goal for your own leadership development during your DNP education that will help you contribute to improving healthcare quality, effectiveness and/or efficiency in the current healthcare system. How will you go about accomplishing this goal?

The paper must adhere to APA format, style, and citations. Paper must include a title page and references page, should be a maximum of 3 pages (not including the title page and references page) and include a minimum of 4 references from peer-reviewed journals (you may use two of the references I have posted). You will lose 10 points if you exceed the 3-page limit. Appropriate in-text citation of references throughout the paper is expected.

Outline of the paper:

• Introduction: Introduce the topic of your paper (leadership practices and core competencies) and nursing leader (one paragraph).
• Main body: (1) Discussion of TWO Kouzes and Posner leadership practices with examples (two paragraphs); (2) Discussion of TWO Heinen et al. leadership competencies (two paragraphs) with examples (two paragraphs); and (3) Personal goal setting (one paragraph).
• Conclusion: Summarize your paper (one paragraph).
