It is best to present yourself in the best way possible while being truthful, so this week we will look at how to design a professional portfolio that is best for you whether it be a hard copy or an electronic portfolio. Guided by the readings and samples provided for this week, we will give you all a start in planning your portfolio, or to refresh one you might have started already. - Begin with an introduction about yourself that describes your professional interests and background in nursing, and a few sentences about your personal philosophy of nursing (300 words). If you have not yet practiced professionally, discuss your hopes for practice and your beliefs about nursing.
- Include a reflective narrative on a practice example where you have made a difference (400 words). This can be from either student or professional encounters.
- Choose from one of the following, and provide an example (400 words) of how you have used:
- Evidence in professional practice
- Leadership in nursing
- Education in the practice area
- Discuss your plans for life after graduation: Do you plan to stay in your present position or search for a new one? Do you plan to seek advanced degrees beyond the BSN, or any certification(s)?
- Identify and explain your concerns about using an electronic portfolio instead of, or in addition to, a hard copy portfolio.
- Conclude with a listing of three (3) or more important documents that you would include in your portfolio (beyond licensure, resume/CV, and diplomas), and identify why you would include those items.
Respond to at least three (3) other postings of your colleagues, by Saturday at 2359, addressing such things as:
- Why do your prefer a paper vs. electronic portfolio?
- What would you look for as a recruiter in a portfolio?
- Help to guide your colleagues to refine their portfolios, or suggest additional content to include.
This week is one of reflection, and citations are not necessary for the initial posting. They should be used to support peer replies. Proceed to the BSN Discussion Grading Rubric.
