Week 11 Discussion – Motivational Interviewing 

Think about an encounter you have had (or observed) when an interaction between an individual and/or family member and a health care provider that demonstrated a strategy for unsuccessful communication. In your discussion group, briefly (one or two paragraphs) describe the encounter and your reaction to it.  This post should reflect 500 words or less.

• Provide enough information so that the reader knows what was being said and any body language used.
• Use a few quotes and/or paraphrase what was said. Describe the individual and/or family member’s reaction.
• Reflect on your experience and imagine how the encounter may have been different if Motivational Interviewing was used. 
• Describe at least 3 changes that could have improved the interaction using Motivational Interviewing strategies. 
• Read postings of your peers and compare the strategies you have used.   

FYI, I am a student nurse (med surge clinicals) and please provide an interaction that can depict an observation I made from a nurse’s interaction, etc. Or whatever that will fit this assignment.
