You are required to write a 7-8 page review of Kiss of the Fur Ǫueen by Tomson Highway.

A book review is a descriptive and critical or evaluative account of a specific book. It provides a summary of content and an analysis of structure. The purpose of the review is to assess the value of the book and to recommend (or not) the book to other readers.

Your book review should include the following:

Introduction (no more than a page)

• Bibliographical Information: Introduce the book including: the author’s name, the full title of the book; publishing information; date of publication; edition and the number of pages.

• Background Information: Provide the reader with information about the author which shows he/she is qualified for writing the book as well as reveal any influences that may affect the author’s point of view.

• Classify the Book: Tell the reader if the book is fiction or non-fiction and classify it further if possible such as is it a biography, autobiography, etc. Clues to finding this information can sometimes be found in the preface.

• Classify the Author’s Intention: Discuss who the book is written for, such as academics, students, the general public.

• Subject C Thesis Statement: What is the book about (subject)? Your thesis statement should be brief (1-2 sentences), accurate, and comprehensive.

Analysis (largest section of paper)

• Summarize the book without giving away too much information. For example, if there is a major turning point or event, discuss it without telling the reader what actually happens.

• Review the entire book, not just the chapters discussed in the lecture.

• You may want to discuss one or more of the following: who are the main characters; what happened to the characters in the book; who was the most realistic character; was the book believable, why or why not.

Critique (approximately 2 pgs)

• Evaluate the book critically and give your honest opinion. This section is about your opinion of the book and your critical comments should form the bulk of your review.
