The course is WRIT 120 (Fundamentals of Effective Writing). Then click on the “Timeline” tab at the top of the course homepage. Then scroll down a bit and look under the heading “Assessments and Activities” in the right-hand column where you will see “Assignment 3 Part 1 (Outline).” You will see the instructions outlined there and some of the resources you will need to complete the assignment. Course material MUST be incorporated and inform your writing. The graders can tell the extent to which arguments are supported by the assigned readings and course material. Please follow ALL instructions very carefully.
The Speech Preparation Notes in Module 4 are your guide to completing this assignment. The notes include examples, explanation, and web links to short readings that will help you draft your outline and expand it into a fully developed speech. You are responsible for reading the web links and applying the content to your assignment.
*You choose your own topic for the speech. However, please avoid “how to” speeches or demonstration speeches.
Set out below are some ideas I had for speech topics:
- The Benefits of Learning a New Language
- The Power of Music on the Brain
Requirements for Use of Sources:
You are required to cite two expert sources in your outline, the text of your speech, and recorded sound file. Expert sources can come from a variety of sources (books, magazines, scholarly journals, television, films, YouTube videos, podcasts, etc.) but should be reputable (i.e. appropriate for an academic audience). Please avoid online encyclopedias or dictionaries.
You are required to include in-text citations and a Works Cited/References list citing two expert sources in MLA or APA style at the end of the outline you will submit for Part 1.
I really appreciate everything you are doing to help me! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you!
