In this assignment, students are expected to present an analytical answer supported by a coherent argument with supporting evidence and examples from the course materials. The question answer should be 6-8 pages in length, double-spaced with a standard character size and font.
All answers must be in essay format with a clear thesis. The answer to the question should integrate material from the course readings and materials, and the approved supplemental readings listed below. Only the course readings/materials listed or linked through the course website and the supplemental readings listed below can be used in this assignment. The answer to the question must include material from a minimum of four of the course readings/materials and/or supplemental readings and include material from a minimum of two modules.
Also, in your answer you must cite all sources of information and interpretation, including material from the lectures and/or power points. (The format for citing lectures is: Instructor name, Lecture title, Course name and number, University Name, Date of lecture and/or PPT Slide Number; the in-text form is: Briggs, Lecture title of Module #, PPT slide #).
Thematic Question – Pick ONE of the two companies listed below (pick either A OR B) and answer the following question.
A) T. Eaton Company Ltd.
B) Labatt Brewing Company Ltd.
As we have seen throughout this course, there have been many factors that have shaped the development of business and the success or failure of individual companies/businesses. To answer this question, examine the most important factors that shaped the development of (Insert Name of Company Chosen) over the course of its history.
While there will have been many factors that impacted the development of the company, pick the main ones that you believe to be most impactful to the overall well-being or detriment of the company. Include in your analysis examination of how the company responded to the opportunities or challenges presented by these factors and how it impacted the company’s success (growth, expansion, profit) or failure (loss, decline, closure). Your answer must include at least two time periods to show the development of the company. The time periods are 1850-1900, 1900-1945, 1945-1990s.

Any material from the Canadian Encyclopedia online is acceptable.
Also, any articles from the Dictionary of Canadian Biography (online) are acceptable. The DCB includes biographies of prominent businessmen from the 1600s to 1930. Thus, it will include biographies for Timothy Eaton and John Labatt.
