Provide a general brief that discusses the range of health security issues you may encounter during the response to a crisis or disaster as if you were briefing policy makers with little to no background in emergency management. In particular I’d like you to focus your discussion on those threats that exist not just to victims but to the responders themselves. What are those threats and how might they impact your decision making? How do you weigh the competing priorities of saving/recovering victims, preventing further injury and death, and protecting your responders. This is not an easy calculation and your presentation should discuss how you might deal with this potential conflict of priorities. Again, I’m not looking for you to discuss this as you would a dissertation but rather how you would inform outsiders to the profession.
