Ethical Resource Allocation in Public Health Emergencies

Discussion: Week 3

The ethical issue debate this week focuses on the allocation of resources during a public health emergency.

This week, Group 1 & 2 will be responsible for posting a position statement that will be used by rest of the class to debate an ethical issue. The groups will then moderate the discussion, throughout the week, supporting their assigned position. See Group Assignment #1 for full details on how this discussion will take place. The position statement is considered the initial posting for group members.

Need answer to this question?

It will be the responsibility of all group members to moderate the discussion. This means:

  •  Ensuring that the discussion stays on topic.
  • Contributing new insight, asking a probing question, and/or debating/challenging our colleagues’ positions (Supported by peer reviewed resources.).
  • Clarifying where needed

I AM A :Non group members are expected to write an initial post that clearly states their position on the issue and rationale from the perspective of their assigned debate role. Each non group member must select a role for this debate and is expected to respond throughout the week in the chosen role. This means:

  • Research the assigned role to develop a stance on the issue.(Initial post)
  • Discuss/identify possible solutions and approaches based on the assigned role.
  • Present arguments (Supported by peer reviewed resources) pro or con the group positions.

Role selection is located in Week 2.

***Make sure that each post you make starts with the ‘title’ of the role of the person you are talking to, and ends with your role title. This way we can always easily remember who is who. Group members’ title is their group number. For example: Group 1, student name

There should be only two threads this week one for group 1 and one for group 2.

The initial reply in the DQ must contain a minimum of two citations, one from the weekly assigned readings and one from an additional scholarly source.

Remember to support the concepts/assertions in your postings throughout the debate with peer reviewed resources. A posting is an example of professional writing and not an opinion piece. Professional writers always use peer reviewed sources to support what they are saying.
