Argument Research Essay Proposal Narrowed Topic: Effects of social media on teen’s mind. Research Question: What effects does daily use of Facebook have on the mental health of under-18s? Tentative Claim/Thesis (Situated in a Valid Debate): While the use of social media has been on the rise, the use of Facebook among teens has equally skyrocketed to a point that has made it necessary to know the impact it has on the mental health of teens and fully recognize its advantages and disadvantages to ensure it's treated with the urgency reacquired. Rationale and Research Plan – Background, Overview, Approach, Research Plan, and Possible Complications (at least two full paragraphs): Background and Overview A a rise in the use of Facebook among teens has been noted in recent years and this should come as no surprise as the pressure to be in social media especially from their peers is the main cause Aside from that their dependence on social media far exceeds that of adults. Having in mind the bounds of social media are so wide and most times these teens are using social media with minimal or zero parental guidance, it raises a lot of concern as to how exactly social media will affect these teens. For a fact, most teens are addicted to social media and this causes them to even want to use it more. For this reason, I became curious to learn how exactly social media especially Facebook affects the mental of the under 18s and the possible remedies we can adopt to ensure the negative impacts won't outdo the positive ones. Without reasonable doubt, social networking plays a crucial part n widening the teens' social connections and by so doing, they end up knowing many people from all walks of life, some younger some older, good people, and some bad (Wood & Allan, 2021).We have to keep in mind that their brains are still developing and most things they learn they do. Subsequently, they are most vulnerable to peer pressure sexting and also cyberbullying. All this plays a significant role in the mental health of teens as they can bring about depression, anxiety, and sleep deprivation envy among others. These mental health issues can be life-threatening hence the need for such research to be done in the quest to help these teens. Social media is not all that bad and am not trying to discourage it but it is of vital importance that guardians comprehend the impact that social media can have on their teens and formulate guidelines for the use of social media. They should also try and create time and have habitual discussions on the use of social media responsibly and in a safe way. If social media is navigated by both the parents and the teens it becomes more manageable and hence better mental health for the teens.
