Assignment overview

This assignment comprises a report on an authentic scenario affecting individuals or organizations and will take place over the duration of the subject. You are required to identify and investigate a case study and analyze the strategies and effects of a cyber-attack, followed by recommendations on corrective measures and actions.

You will research an organization of your choice that is/was a victim of a severe cyber-attack and write a case study report.

Ensure that the following points are covered:

1. Discuss the main reasons why the attack on the organization occurred.

• Include in your discussion whether the cyber-attack was mainly due to the poor cyber security infrastructure in the organization, as well as the failure of the organizational management to act accordingly with regards to the implementation and support of controls.

2. Identify and explain the vulnerabilities and threats that the organization overlooked or ignored before the cyber-attack (declared or derived).

• Why do you think the organization overlooked or ignored those vulnerabilities and threats?

• Discuss any actions that you think the organization should have taken immediately after the breach occurred.

3. Based on your analysis (points 1 and 2), propose IT security controls and policies and any other corrective measures/actions that you think the organization should take to avoid the nature of such attacks, and any other cyber-attacks in the future.
