Week 2 Discussion: Chemistry of the Brain

This week, you learned about neurotransmitters, the chemicals that neurons use to communicate with each other.

Neurotransmitters are important not only because they are critical to transmitting information between neurons, but because some of the common neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine are very involved in emotional state and in depression.

• Discuss ways that there might be differences from person to person in neurotransmitters
• How might these differences be a factor in behavior? Be specific about particular neurotransmitters impacting particular behaviors.
