Chapter 22: Health Disparities
- Summarize the main issue in an introductory paragraph.
- Examine the issue in relation to Healthy People 2020 or Healthy People 2030.
- List the Healthy People 2020 or Healthy People 2030 goals and initiative related to the issue.
- This initial submission will be 4 pages in length including the title page and references page.
In order to examine the issue in relation to, which you have already introduced in the first paragraph, you need to introduce Healthy People 2020 or 2030 as a whole – so what is it, what is it about, what is the vision/mission/overarching goals? Then talk a little about how you see your topic fitting in with those big pieces – this is the macro level. In the next paragraph, you will specifically drill down into the specific goals/initiatives that are related to your issue – this is the micro level.
Citing sources from an organization
- When citing sources from an organization, such as Healthy People 2030, the overarching organization is the author – Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP). Each page that you reference needs its own source in the reference list since the title of the page and the corresponding URL will be different. For example, when citing basic information about HP in order to examine your chosen issue and how it relates to HP, you would make a reference for the page used to get that information (ie About Healthy People 2030). However, when discussing the HP goals and initiatives related to your topic you would be referencing a different page that would have a different title and different URL (ie Mental Health and Mental Disorders). Because the organization is the same (ODPHP), your citations need to be done correctly so the reader can distinguish which citation matches which source on the reference page. You can find instructions on how to do this on page 267 Section 8.19 and page 305 Section 9.47 in your APA Manual.
