Durach et al. argue that the perception of the refugee crisis is generally controlled by how it is portrayed in the media. In European nations like Romania, anti-refugee sentiment is fueled by right-leaning media sources that misrepresent the refugees and the nature of the crisis, thereby exacerbating potential internal conflict in the host countries. This paper supports the paper’s topic because it delves into refugee-related conflicts and methods to mitigate their damage through international cooperation and controlling the narrative.

In this paper, Lischer makes the argument that refugees have the potential to stabilize regions, including their host countries. This can be mitigated by creating policies that ensure their safety and prosperity, as the security of the host state and that of the refugees are connected. This demonstrates that the refugee crisis, if not handled appropriately, can cause conflict in the host country, which inevitably strains relations with the source country. However, if the host and source countries cooperate, then conflict can be reduced. Therefore, this paper supports the assertion that the refugee crisis naturally creates conflict and cooperation.

Refugees potentially create conflict in the host country and between the host country and the source country. Solodoch claims that host countries are swift to implement new asylum and immigration policies to mitigate economic and political turmoil in the host country. However, the author also notes that international agreements like those between the EU and Turkey not only quieted internal strife but strengthened internal cooperation. This paper bolsters this paper’s thesis, as it demonstrates the refugee crisis creating both conflict and cooperation.
