Assignment Background

In this assignment, you will give the class a final presentation on the outcome that you have studied in Program Evaluation Project Assignments 1-5 by drawing on the material that you prepared for these assignments. You may use the slides that you developed for your earlier presentation (Program Evaluation Project Assignment 3) as a starting point for this second presentation, so long as you add new material that is required. Also be sure that your presentation addresses any feedback that the instructor provided on Program Evaluation Project Assignments 1-5.

Assignment

Prepare a slide set that will accompany a 10-15 minute presentation that you will make to the class. In your slides, summarize the following information from Program Evaluation Project Assignments 1-5:

• Remind us of the outcome that you are studying in your Program Evaluation Project. [Use Assignment 1 and be sure to again define the outcome clearly]
• Recap briefly why this outcome is of interest. [Use Assignment 1. Do not go into as much depth here as you did for your previous presentation]
• Recap how this outcome been measured in past academic research. [Use Assignment 2. Do not go into as much depth here as you did for your previous presentation]
• Identify and describe major key explanatory variables that have appeared in past studies of this outcome. [Use Program Evaluation Project Assignment 4]
• Identify and describe one program or policy that has sought to move this outcome. [Use Program Evaluation Project Assignment 5 and discuss the same issues that you discussed in Program Evaluation Project Assignment 5]
• Overall, what are your thoughts about the program or policy that you described above? For example, do you think that the (explicit or implicit) logic model is well thought through? Is the program theory similar to or different from the logic that motivated selection of key explanatory variables in academic research that has studied this outcome? [Note that this item requires some new analysis beyond what you wrote for Program Evaluation Project Assignment 5]

Assignment Formatting

• As with your previous presentation, regardless of what software you use to prepare your slides, save your final slide set in PDF format. Upload the PDF version to Canvas and share the PDF version from your computer during class.
• It is again up to you how many slides you prepare, but your entire slide set should probably be between 10-20 slides. Do not exceed 20 slides.
• As with your previous presentation, make sure that your slides are easy to read.

Help Starting the Assignment

• With the exception of the last item listed under the Assignment section above, this assignment does not require you to do new work. Rather, it is an opportunity to synthesize the work that you have done on Program Evaluation Project Assignments 1-5.
• Practice your presentation in advance of class, and ensure that you can complete the presentation in 10-15 minutes. If you find that your presentation runs longer, identify what material you can omit to ensure that you stay within the 15-minute timeframe.
