Now that we’ve discussed so many different leadership-related topics throughout the term and now that you’ve had a chance to lead a group during your term-long project, it’s time for a personal reflection exercise in which you not only reflect on your own tendencies and qualities as a leader, but also come up with an action plan regarding how to capitalize on your strengths and opportunities and overcome/avoid your weaknesses and threats. This paper is meant to allow you the flexibility to make it specific to you personally. You should consider your Strengths (and the Opportunities that emanate from them), as well as your Weaknesses (and the Threats that emanate from them) when it comes to becoming and being effective as a formal and informal leader at work. You may specifically want to draw on certain aspects of what it means to be a leader that we’ve specifically covered in our course – e.g., building relationships and managing our bosses and subordinates, gaining and properly using power and influence at work, leading teams effectively, driving innovation and change at work, etc. You should also integrate any Leadership-related Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats that were made clear to you while you lead your semester-long leadership project.

You started doing some of the thinking that will go into this paper in Discussion Boards. In one Discussion Board, you thought about your strengths as a leader as well as the opportunities that presents to you, as well as your weaknesses as a leader and the threats that poses for you. Based upon that thinking, what actions can you take to capitalize on your strengths as a leader and the opportunities that presents for you, as well as what actions can you take to overcome/avoid your weaknesses and threats as a leader? You also started thinking about this in a Discussion Board.

You will definitely have 4 headings: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. You could split your Action Plan into 1 category/heading (i.e., Action Plan) or split it into 2 categories: (i) Action Plan to Capitalize on Strengths/Opportunities as a Leader, (ii) Action Plan to Overcome Weaknesses/Threats as a Leader. So, you will have 5-6 Headings and at least 5 bullet points under each Heading for the Leadership SWOT Analysis & Action Plan Paper.

  • Using Bullet Point Format for the SWOT Analysis and the Action Plan sections will be just fine.

This was the goal(soccer training)

We will go to the park for 3 days a week and practice progress will be measured by evaluating your team after each session. This will be done by May 5th.

S.W.O. T

Strengths:  I can spot what is not working more easily than any others

I always find a better way of doing something

Weaknesses: Putting people off with my high risk taking.

Setting the bar very high and that tend to burn people out

Struggling to deal with people who cannot accept change

Tendency of struggling to deal with inconsistency

Opportunities:  Gaining leadership

Quick formulation of a vision

Help others learn to accept personality conflicts

Continue to build a positive experience for my team

Threats:  Loss of job due to economy

Excessive Workload

Stress

Actionable :

My ability to spot what is wrong and solve it quickly has helped improved the team’s skills. Instead of just focusing on a general workout, I capitalized on this strength to tailor training concepts based on everyone flaws which improved the team.

Instead of setting the bar very high, I will try to start based on everyone’s level.  I have started embracing the fact that some people may need some time to transition and that has helped me become calmer in dealing with folks who are very conservative in their approach. Also, as repetition is the mother of learning, I have been very patient with folks who need to jump around to figure it out and have come to accept that not everyone has the same capabilities.

I am hoping that with lock down reopened and the pandemic dying down, I will have the chance to invite more people or be able to interact with them without fear- which would inevitably reduce stress and the workload I am doing.

I will continue pushing everyone in the team to bring out positive energy and have each other’s back. Respect shall always be mutual
