1. Select one HRT setting you want to study:
   1. Hospitality/tourism (hotel, restaurant, cruise line, airline or casino).
   2. Recreation (park, sport, aquatics, day camp, military or campus recreation program).
   3. Recreation therapy program (medical, city, school or prison).
2. Find one or more academic references that are current and credible (do not use the textbook as a reference). Every reference should focus directly on the HRT setting and legal issue you want to write about.
3. Develop a formal, written paper analyzing one law, regulation, regulatory agency, or legal issue that affects operations of an HRT agency or organization.

Content

1. Explain the HRT setting and the law, regulation, regulatory agency, or legal issue you researched.
2. Provide a clear statement of position about the importance, relevance or impact for your selected HRT setting of the law, regulation, regulatory agency, or legal issue.
3. Discuss what a new management trainee needs to know to comply with legal requirements.
4. Provide information about the penalties for non-compliance with legal requirements.
5. Draw conclusions based on your research and analysis about specific actions needed by managers and staff members to comply with legal requirements.

Acceptable References

1. Full-text peer-reviewed journal articles.
2. Books other than the course textbook.
3. Trade or industry publication articles (published to educate and inform professionals working in a trade or industry).
4. Articles, data, legal requirements or analysis from governmental web pages (.gov), educational web pages (.edu).
5. Conference proceeding articles.

4.  Dissertations/theses.

Use only the type of references listed. All references must be published or revised between 2000-2024 and include the name of the author/editor/organization. Do not use any references

without a date (n.d. is not acceptable), that includes websites. Look at the bottom of the webpage for a copyright date.

Do NOT use magazine articles (designed for the public), blogs, encyclopedias,

dictionaries, Wikipedia, book reviews, abstracts, the course textbook, videos, or newspaper articles as references.

Guidelines

Format

1. Write a formal paper in third person (no I, we or you). Spell and grammar check your work.
2. Submit your work in Word or PDF format (.doc, .docx. or .pdf).
3. Write a minimum of 1000 words including the introduction, body and conclusion. An abstract, title page, running head, and table of contents should not be included and will not count toward the required length.
4. Double-space throughout the paper and reference page. Use 1” margins and a 12-point readable font. Indent the first line in each paragraph. Limit paragraphs to 3-7 sentences in length. Use headings to organize the paper.
5. Use appropriate grammar, spelling, sentence structure and punctuation. Spell and grammar check your work.

4. Write full sentences in paragraph form. Use your own words. No direct quotes, lists or bullet points.

7. Include APA format citations throughout the text of the paper (author’s last name, year of publication) or for a website (organization name, date), and full APA citations in the reference section at the end of the paper (Author or organization name, date. Title of the article or webpage. Volume, issue, and page numbers for an article. Full URL).
8. The work should be original, written by you for this class. Turnitin is a tool that will be used to check originality. To improve originality, do not copy the work of other authors, or your own previous work. Do not use AI. Do not use direct quotes.

Submitting Your Paper and the Similarity Report

1. To earn credit, successfully upload your work to this Turnitin link in Module 3 on the class Canvas site before the due date.
2. The Similarity Report should be 14% or less, including citations, with no sentences or sections that match the work of other authors or your previous work. No direct quotes or should be used from any source.
3. Submit your paper well before the deadline so you have time to deal with technical issues, check the Similarity Report, make revisions if necessary, and resubmit.

Grading

Grades will be based on content, adherence to the assignment requirements, quality of the writing, format, references, citations and originality.
