Jesus the Master Social Worker

Need answer to this question?

 Instructions:

Christian Social Workers consider Jesus as “The Master Social Worker”. His life on earth was spent working to improve the health and well-being of people. This assignment provides you with an opportunity to explore the life of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and how his life mirrored social work practice. This assignment represents the core/heart of our Christian Social Work program as we believe that the life, character and holiness of Jesus represents all the ideals that we should strive for as Christian social workers. Please take the time and effort to carefully review this assignment, THINK about how best to respond to each question, and write an amazing assignment. Remember, this is not your ordinary paper, it will require you to think through each area in order to produce a paper that responds appropriately to each requirement.

This paper should be a minimum of 3-4 pages, double-spaced with a cover page (APA Style). This assignment is should be taken seriously and with thought as it will be worth 10% of your final grade. Please note that producing quality assignments is more important than quantity.

Included in this briefing are some resource terms that you should use in the completion of this assignment.

Please note that helpful resources for the completion of this assignment are listed at the end of this paper.

Part 1 of this assignment requires you to use Critical Thinking skills that you have learned. Please utilize the concepts learned in Critical Thinking (CT) courses (OU 101, EN111, EN112; if perhaps you did not take these courses, the CT concepts are listed below in this assignment) to aid you your thinking and completion of this assignment, in other words, your responses should show insight and thought that will demonstrate that you have used CT concepts to aid in writing your responses. Please review the rubric to guide you in how this assignment will be assessed. Again, please utilize the Critical Thinking (CT) principles (Elements of Thought) learned in previous classes to guide your responses, please see the CT resource listed at the end of this document. The idea is for you to use these principles to guide you in your writing of this assignment which will help you produce a richer, grounded, and insightful written paper that will demonstrate that you have thought about your written work and have insightful evidence to support your statements. When writing, please place in parenthesis or underline, the CT principle that you have used next to your statement so that it is easily identifiable. For each of your responses, choose a specific CT principle that you will use when responding to each question. You will need to review the question and think about which CT principle(s) best fits with that question and the way you would like to respond then use it in your responses. This will take some thought on your part to plan your paper but will help provide a much stronger paper.

Part I. – Biblical Accounts and CT Principle

  • Please choose ONE Biblical account (either a micro, mezzo or macro) in which Jesus emulated/played the role of a Social Worker (see Social Worker Roles chart). Please write in narrative form.
  • After listing the biblical account (either a micro, mezzo or macro example), respond to each of the following questions relating to Jesus and social work practice:
    • Role – What role did Jesus play (see chart)? Why did you choose this role? How does this role reflect social work practice? (research the role as it relates to social work; in other words – describe the role, how are social workers equipped to play this role, why does our society we need social workers in this role; please provide references for the information given – DO NOT JUST CUT and PASTE)
    • Knowledge & skills – What social work knowledge (3) and skills (3) did Jesus utilize in this case? (See resource list) Please describe!

    • Discuss how this specific principle relates to your JMSW micro, mezzo, or macro original case example from above.
    • Select two of the following and discuss the impact of societal and family influences upon “His” (Jesus) practice. In other words, how did Jesus respond to these influences? Please list and discuss the specific biblical examples that you are using to illustrate your selections. Don’t forget to use a CT principle to help guide you in your response.

  • Where would you go together? • List each agency (3) and then for each agency discuss the following.
    • What needs would He see?
    • How would He meet those agency needs?
    • List and discuss two “Fruits of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22,23) principles that you believe would be evident in the way Jesus treated people at one of your agencies. Would you adopt these principles in your own practice? Why or why not – Provide scriptural support

How your paper should read for Part 1

MICRO- Case Example of Jesus and Micro Social Work Practice

The micro level of social work deals with individual practice. A biblical example where Jesus interacted with an individual to provide aid was …. (continue to describe the case chosen).

Social Work Role

In this case Jesus mirrors the role of a social worker on a micro level (discuss the role that Jesus would play, see example of roles below).

Critical Thinking-

Jesus illustrated the critical thinking concept of “Clarity” when He…

Knowledge and Skills Used

As the Master Social Worker, Jesus used knowledge and skills that are appropriate for social work practice. First, list and discuss at least 3 areas of knowledge, and skills (please choose at least one from each area) used by Jesus to address your chosen case.

Critical Thinking-

Jesus showed His mastery of each of these knowledge areas (the ones you selected) in several ways. The first example was his knowledge of diversity, He knew that the people who came to see him were from diverse backgrounds and as a result he would need to adjust the way He dealt with each group according to their customs, social class, and cultural background. This is an example of the critical thinking concept of Assumptions where Jesus did not take for granted that all of the people that sought Him were the same and was able to deal with each person or group using the best practice that would meet their need. (In other worlds, list and explain the CT concept and how it relates to the knowledge area you are discussing in this case the knowledge area was diversity).

Social Work Values

One of the social work values found in the NASW Code of Ethics (booklet available online or in the Social Work Handbook) that this case reflects is that of (choose one and then discuss how this value relates to your chosen case).

Critical Thinking-

In the parable of the lost coin, Jesus demonstrated the value of _____. One of the critical thinking concepts that I derived from this parable that relates to social work values is ________ (list and describe the CT concept and then explain how it relates to social work values).                                Social Work Code of Ethics                                                                                                                           One of the ethical principles found in the NASW Code of Ethics (booklet available on line or in the Social Work Handbook) that this case reflects is that of… (choose one and then discuss how this ethical principle relates to your chosen case).                                                                                          Critical Thinking –                                                                                                                                                              One of the “Elements of Thought” is “Points of View”. This concept encourages us to obtain different perspectives when seeking to address a problem. In this parable, Jesus was able to use several perspectives to aid His audience in understanding His perspective. First, he used the perspective of…                                                                                                                                      A second ethical principles found in the NASW Code of Ethics (booklet available on line or in the Social Work Handbook) that this case reflects is that of… (choose one and then discuss how this value relates to your chosen case.                                                                                                                                 Biblical Foundation                                                                                                                                                              Using the biblical foundation of Honesty found in Luke 6:31 Jesus shows us how He was always able to have integrity and show honesty to others by like in my original case example of Jesus….                                        Jesus also faced many societal issues such as social injustice as described in….(enter biblical reference and example)                                                                                           Another societal issue Jesus faced was mental health. He was faced with this issue in…(enter biblical reference and example).
