Week 1 Reflective Journal: Understanding Microaggressions and Unconscious Bias

Submit the first week of your reflective journal. It will be reviewed weekly as we progress through the semester. Each week you should incorporate your impressions of the assigned readings, course discussions, and responses from the professor and classmates. Each weekly installment should be roughly 1 to 2 pages single-spaced.

  2. Explore the outcomes associated with the experience of microaggressions.
  3. Discover techniques to minimize the occurrence of microaggressions and ways to respond when someone has been micro aggressive.
  4. Define unconscious bias, and why we tend to be biased against or in favour of specific groups.
  5. Explore how unconscious bias leads to unfair treatment and discrimination in the workplace.
